Sunny Rock (Numazu, Shizuoka)

Sunny Rock is a great place to climb. While a bit of a trek to get out to, it is completely worth it. The staff is friendly and people are generally nice. If you come before 6:30 p.m the prices are only 1600 yen which is a steal in terms of bouldering prices. The walls are changed every so often so you’ll be able to test your medal. There are so many problems to choose from you usually run out of strength before you beat that problem you’ve been working on all day.  However don’t stay too long or else…

You might never leave.

Jokes aside you’ll see a bunch of buff Japanese guys and girls climbing walls. Sometimes You’ll even see little kids destroying the problem you found yourself unable to do. There is a literal hole in the wall changing room, air conditioning for cold days, heaters for hot days, a huge bouldering side,  a challenging top rope side, a smoking area and benches to sit on, you’ll find yourself quite comfortable in the facilities they provide.

Recently renovated 2nd floor means you can now try more overhang climbing!

If you go outside up to the second floor, you’ll find a small rock climbing shop run by the owner which provides Sunny Rock shirts, chalk bags, shoes, harnesses, and etc…  Anyway if you find yourself without hobbies in Numazu, a veteran climber, or just someone who wants to work out, Sunny Rock is  for you.
