Kamukura – Soup With Noodles (Shinjuku, Tokyo)

Kamukura, not to be confused with Kamakura is a ramen shop in Tokyo and I have to say it’s quite good. It’s name Soup with Noodles is simple but not incorrect. It’s a chain, but it’s quite delicious. It was recommended to me by a friend in Tokyo, so to say the least I was looking forward to try it. If you ever find yourself on the streets of Shinjuku, or Shibuya you’ll find a delightfully clean restaurant with a bright interior design. (or at least the ones I’ve been to.)

The restaurant is quite foreigner friendly with the ticket machine all in English. The prices start from around 700 yen. There are a number of different ramen to choose from. So I chose their おすすめ（recommendation) the 小チャーシュー煮玉子ラーメン Small Chashu, Soft boiled Egg Ramen. The special thing about this restaurant is a jar of Chinese cabbage that you can continue to add to your broth even after you eat everything in it.  It was definitely filling. The broth was light and the noodles were probably special because they had a slight sweetness to them. It was garnished with sliced leeks. I ate it was a small plate of gyoza which weren’t anything too special. Still good none the less. Definitely a solid place to eat!

 

You can find kamukura throughout Japan. Don’t confuse it with Kamakura or you’ll end up in Kanagawa!
